Is my child at a disadvantage?
You may relate and observe these as your child is Kindergarten or Primary (elementary) school:
Difficulties in 1 or more of the following:
Despite giving a lot of attention to assist my child, he still makes many careless mistakes, or little improvement.
While most of the children would advance to primary schools equipped with good pencil writing, copying, eye tracking, visual & auditory memory skills, some of the children may not be able to function well in school due to delayed development in fine motor, eye tracking, copying skills.
The need for early detection of learning problems comes down to potential. Children who may initially be thought to have lower intelligence than their peers may have normal intelligence, but have a problem learning that prevents them from reaching their potential. Not recognizing the reasons that young children struggle in school will prevent them from getting the help they need to reach their potential, then, and later on.
Poor visual skills affecting learning do not go away. Instead, they grow more problematic as time is allowed to pass. Getting behind in Primary 3 or 4 (Grade 3 or 4) may not seem like a significant problem. Once they reach Primary 5 or 6, the impact of the learning difficulties become more apparent, but the children have already fallen well behind across the years.
By this point, children are feeling a lack of confidence and becoming more frustrated, sometimes resulting in behavioural problems. There is a need to detect the learning difficulties early on, so steps can be taken to help the children to obtain the life skills needed for a successful life throughout adulthood.
At Vision and Learning Developmental Practice, we provide the latest equipment and skills to assess a child's eye tracking matched with norms, visual perceptual skills, visual information processing skills, and more to fully understand their learning abilities.
