FAQ
1. Are the assessments any different from what the optometrist or the ophthalmologist are already performing?
Standard eye tests are designed to detect eyesight problems (eg. Myopia, Astigmatism etc) or eye health, pathological/structural problems (eg. Cataract/Retinal Diseases etc). Referrals from us are often made to the Ophthalmologists for further assessments and treatment in the presence of a structural eye problem.
Our assessments include various components of visual efficiency, such as eye tracking, eye focusing, eye teaming etc. Additional tests are also conducted by our educator to check for visual perceptual skills and eye-hand coordination. These results will allow us to gain an indepth knowledge of the functional vision of a child and to help remediate difficulties.
2. Do you provide a report?
A report is provided for most assessments. It is not available for screening appointments.
The findings of the report should be relayed to the the various professionals (e.g. psychologists, occupational therapists) who are involved in the support /rehabilitation of the individual.
3. Do you work with special populations? Like children who are non-verbal, for instance?
Yes. Parent/caregiver involvement may be required during the testing.
4. Do all these conditions affect an adult as well?
Yes. Vision disorders and/or binocular vision disorders can affect an adult due to various reasons (e.g. degenerative disorders, brain injuries or concussions).
