Learning Related Vision problems Checklist
May include 1 or more symptoms
  • Holds book very close
  • Viewing or reading from an angle
  • Covers/closes one eye while reading
  • Squints during near work
  • Constant poor posture when doing near work
  • Moves whole head together with the flow of the text
  • Moves head front and back when reading
  • Difficulty sustaining attention when doing near tasks
  • Homework requiring reading takes longer that it should
  • Child reports seeing double or blurring
  • Difficulty copying from board
  • Uses a marker/finger/ruler to keep their place when reading
  • Writing up or downhill, irregular letter and spacing
  • Letter reversals (b for d, p for q)
  • Repeatedly omits “small” words
  • Re-reads or skips words or lines unknowingly
  • Misaligns digits in columns of numbers
  • Headaches during/after near tasks
  • Burning or itchy eyes
  • Excessive blinking/rubbing during near tasks but not otherwise

If your child displays signs of Visual problems listed above, a learning related vision assessment will be helpful. These visual problems can also exist in adults.
